Friday Storm Impacts Transmission Towers In Southwest

During the wild weather that blew through the southwest on Friday afternoon, the transmission towers at Cressy were amongst the worst impacted.

At around 4.45pm, up to 10 large power transmission towers fell during the storm, sparking a grassfire.

The Colac Ballarat Road and Hamilton Highway at Cressy were closed until brigades managed to get the fire under control by 7pm.

The incident reduced the state's electricity reserves, with pressure on supply worsened as the interconnector to South Australia was declared out of operation.
