SES helps passengers off stranded train
State Emergency Services crews have been called out to help passengers off a stranded train.
The service from Melbourne to Warrnambool broke down Tuesday morning 400 metres short of Birregurra Station.
The passengers have since been taken to their destinations on replacement coaches.
Passengers had to walk along the tracks with the assistance of the SES after the train breakdown.
V/Line has apologised to passengers.
"A major train fault caused the early termination of the 07:23 Southern Cross to Warrnambool train service today.”
“We sincerely apologise to customers for the inconvenience. We have deployed coaches to Birregurra to get passengers to their destinations.”
V/Line says the cause of the breakdown is under investigation.
