White Toyota Stolen As Thefts Continue Across The Southwest

Police across the southwest are cracking down on car thieves following an increase in the number of car thefts, with another occurring in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 2016 white Toyota Prado with black bullbar and roof racks was stolen from the front yard of a Hart Street property in Colac, sometime between midnight and 7am.

Colac police members are appealing to the public to come forward with any information regarding the stolen vehicle.

One of the 33 car thief arrests in the last two months included the arrest of a 26 year old man in relation to the theft of five different vehicles from locations including Colac.

He has been charged with a total of 19 offences and is remanded to appear in the Geelong Magistrates Court on June 16.

Along with obviously locking and securing all vehicles, local residents are also reminded to;

- always store car keys out of view and away from external doors and windows
- make sure your keys are with you at all times, including when you're away and left your car at home
- do not leave your keys unattended in public
- do not tag your keys with your name or address
- never leave a spare set of keys in your car
