At 4.30pm on Wednesday afternoon, the two offenders attended inside the business and were caught pocketing items by staff members.

The staff confronted them, resulting in the male offender assaulting a female staff member, creating a makeshift flamethrower with a stolen can of deodorant and a lighter.

Thankfully, the female staff member was not injured.

Acting Sergeant Paul Barker urged the community, if ever they were under similar circumstances, not to approach or confront the offender. He encouraged the public to call 000 straight away and allow police to take over on scene.

If anyone was witness to the event, they are asked to contact Sergeant Barker or Senior Constable Heath Parrott at the Colac Police Station on 5230 0000.

The offenders have both been bailed to appear at the Colac Magistrates Court in March.
