Locals Encouraged With Statewide Testing Blitz

In order to meet the Premier's designated target of 100,000 Victorians tested for coronavirus, Colac Area Health is calling on local residents to be tested.

The widespread testing is to inform decisions around lifting restrictions and to analyse how the virus spreads in communities.

In recent days, CAH had to adopt a drive through testing centre in order to deal with demand, however that was a temporary procedure.

CEO Fiona Brew said the more vulnerable groups in our community, such as those already with preexisting conditions, were the first port of call.

"Construction workers, people who work in supermarkets, people who work in aged care, emergency workers like police, fire and paramedics. Also people with chronic conditions and people who are of Indigenous and Torres-Strait Islander decent. They're the key groups we're encouraging to get tested. We are testing more than that, but they're who we're encouraging the most to come and get a test.

"Our COVID-19 clinic is in Connor Street. We want people to ring ahead. There are two parts to it, you'll get screened before testing, which will allow us to then make the decision on whether you require to be swabbed and results sent for a COVID-19 test. So even though you might not fit the criteria that requires a test, you're getting screened anyway."

You can contact the Colac Area Health COVID-19 information number on 5232 5402.
