Apollo Bay Surf Life Saving Club will continue to lobby for an Australian first Blue Ocean Safety Skills Centre.
Member for Polwarth Richard Riordan has thrown his support behind the project .. pleading for the Minister for Emergency Services to seek funding for the centre to be built as well as an upgrade for the club.
Mr Riordan told Parliament on Friday the project needs to go ahead.
"The action I seek from the minister is to come down to Apollo Bay and to see the fantastic program that the people at the Apollo Bay Surf Life Saving Club have put together," he said.
"Apollo Bay is the place to do it, it's on the wild ocean, it has a safe harbour for launching boats safely and training and more importanlty it's got a whole community that's willing to get in and support this project."
"It's got one of the best foreshores along the Great Ocean Road and a facility there that seriously needs an upgrade."
