This summer's event will be held online, allowing participants to complete the swim in a location of their choice, or their hometown, between November 3 and January 14.

Current COVID-19 restrictions have prompted the major change to the annual January event, along with the town’s fun run, Mountain to Surf.

Entrants will be required complete the set distance, which is either a 1.2km swim or 8km run at any location and then lodge a valid time electronically.

Event organisers say they could not postpone the event due to concerns around colder water and poor weather.

Earlier this year the Pier to Pub celebrated it's 40th anniversary, attracting the likes of Olympic gold medalist Mack Horton to compete, who was beaten by three-time winner Hayden Cotter.

Mountain to Surf is an 8km fun run starting in Lorne and continuing through the Otway’s, then along the Great Ocean Road before finishing at the surf lifesaving club.

There will be no official placegetters for either events.

Entries will open from November 2, for more information visit, www.lornesurfclub.com.au/pier-to-pub-events/pier-to-pub/pier-to-pub-home/.
