The Council will receive $689,000 to build a second playroom at Cobden and District Kindergarten, with another $400,000 to go towards expansion of Skipton Pre-School.

Mayor Neil Trotter welcomed the funding from the State Government’s Building Blocks program.

“This is terrific news for families with young children in these communities,” Cr Trotter said.

“Extending services to include three-year-old kindergarten next year will require better facilities to cater for more children"

“This funding is a welcome injection that will allow us to meet some of those requirements, the projects will also support local businesses amid the economic impacts of coronavirus"

Community Services Manager Katie Hearn said the project would help future proof the facilities, with pupil numbers expected to grow in coming years.

“This funding is really great news and we thank the Government for supporting the youngest members of our community,” Ms Hearn said.

“Three-year-old kinder services will become a really important part of families’ lives, improving our facilities will give us the capacity to educate children in a safe and nurturing environment"

“We will keep our families posted about the development as planning progresses.”
