Final recruitment numbers will be based on future forecasts for the upcoming fire season.

Successful recruits will take part in responding to emergencies, conducting planned burning and fighting bushfires in parks and forests.

These fixed-term positions will also involve looking after public land across the Otways, with responsibilities to include maintaining Strategic Fuel Breaks, community engagement, pest and weed control, management of roadside vegetation and maintaining access to forest trails and roads.

The Forest and Fire Operations Officer positions include field operations supervisors, plant operations and field team leads.

The Project Firefighter roles are made up of general firefighters and fire support officers. There are three positions for applicants who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

FFMVic is working towards achieving equal representation of men and women in its workforce by 2025. People from all work backgrounds encouraged to apply, with extensive training will be provided to successful recruits.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is physically fit and ready for plenty of outdoor work," Otway District Manager David Roberts said.

"You could be operating heavy machinery one week and responding to an emergency the next,” he said.

“These positions are important in protecting communities and the environment in the Otways.”

“We encourage anyone looking for an opportunity to work in our beautiful forests and parks to apply.”
