Colac Otway Council Candidates Announced

Nominations for council have now expired and there are some glaring omissions who will not be running for re-election this time round.

Mayor Jason Schram and councillors Brian Crook and Chris Smith have both decided to not stand for re-election, allowing for some fresh faces at council level.

Cr Crook, who has been in council intermittently since 2002, says although the decision to step aside was tough, the time was right.

"It wasn't an easy decision and I've wrestled with it for weeks, but ultimately there comes a time to look at doing other things and it's as simple and important as spending time with family," he said.

"It's a big commitment another four years, if you're going to make that commitment you're in it one-hundred per cent."

"For me I had to consider my age and also the fact that it'd be nice to have a couple of holidays and perhaps spending time with family a little bit."

Cr Crook says hopefully, there will be more respect for staff , due process, planning and informed decision making with seven councillors playing their part.

"For too long, our shire has been short changed. This looks like a strong field of candidates from which to choose our next Council," he said.
