Students are to bring a gold coin donation to school that will go into a collective, supporting those impacted by the bushfires.

Colac Secondary College, Colac Primary, Colac South West Primary, Colac West Primary, Elliminyt Primary and Colac Specialist School will all participate.

Colac Primary Principal and Network Chair of the Barwon South West Region, Shelby Papadopoulos, said the initiative was student-lead.

"Colac Primary does social services every term, so the students bring in a gold coin donation that goes to an organisation and we change that up. So the idea from the students this term was to support Blaze Aid and bushfire reconstruction. Meeting with the Colac government schools, they all decided to jump on board which is a first for us.

"We try and make our students aware of social projects and things going on in the community and within the country.

"The kids will be able to wear casual clothes for their gold coin donation. Some schools will do extra things like barbecues and things like that to go towards our grand total, whatever that may be."
