Birregurra have continued their impressive start to the season
It was tipped to be another tight Easter Saturday blockbuster at a jam-packed Stribling Reserve, but reigning premiers Birregurra continued its strong start to their title defence with a 55-point thrashing over Lorne, 16.13 (109) to 7.12 (54).
The Dolphins took it to the visitors in a tight opening quarter, before the Saints flexed their muscles in an explosive ten minute burst before the main break, with six goals to two in the second quarter giving them a 26-point advantage at half time.
Lorne wasted numerous chances to get themselves back into the match in the third quarter with 2.6 losing all chance of a miraculous comeback.
The Saints rubbed salt into the wounds with four unanswered majors in the last term to continue their dominant start to their 2017 campaign and remain hot favourites to go back-to-back premierships.
Captain Andrew Kelly was the star for the winners with thirty-two possessions and was awarded with the best-on-ground medal, while brother Christian finished up with five majors, with Sam Green booted three goals in another impressive team effort.
Dolphins coach Sam Stavenuiter and Sam Kelly booted two goals for the losers, with Sean Holroyd and Kane Smartt named among the best players.
