Lorne vs Birregurra @ Stribling Reserve, Saturday, 2pm
The traditional Easter Saturday blockbuster will take centre stage this weekend as part of the split round, as for the third consecutive year the Dolphins and the reigning premiers will square off on this day and it sure to be a terrific match. Lorne took out the first encounter two years ago, but Birregurra would managed to turn the tables twelve months later to come from seven goals down late in the third term to storm home to win by a point to kick-start their memorable run towards the premiership. Both teams have had solid starts to their 2017 campaigns, however, they face their more important test to see where their at heading towards the halfway mark of the season. The Dolphins’ recurits have settled in to their new home nicely, including Jack Scarlett, Stephen Heppel and Chris Mihicinac and the returning Kane and Sean Smartt from higher level of football and have looked sharp in the wins over Colac Imperials and South Colac over the first two weeks. The Saints looked very impressive in two huge victories over Alvie and Otway Districts by playing some terrific brand of team footy and the looks of James Rowan and Sam Green down in the forward line to help Christian Kelly have boosted their goal-kicking stocks. Expect this to be played a finals-like pace and it could very well go down to the wire once again between the two clubs in this massive clash.
Last Time They Met: Round 12, 2016: Birregurra 16.9 (105) defeated Lorne 5.6 (36)
Prediction: Lorne by 2 points
