AFL Please Read - Max has an idea

On Air on Saturday the great Peter Hickey was not too happy with the way the AFL spend their money. After a horror week in the offices at the AFL and with a few dollars saved on wages i came up with a idea on which the AFL could better use their cash while helping local footy.

I put it to the AFL to bring a program in for players who are set to retire or have their AFL careers ending through delistments etc and get these guys spread out into the local leagues.

The player would be employed by the AFL and sent down to a Country league to:

- Play for a bottom two/struggling side (Will not be counted in their player points system or their salary cap)

- They would coach one of the sides they play fors Under 14/16/17/18 sides

- They would work with the league and run their whole junior program (VLine Academy/Auskick programs/School Clinics)

- They became an ambassador and liaison for the local area in regards to connecting local groups with AFL teams

During the week the league raised concerns about their junior Footy moving forward, while it was reported there were leagues around the state who were capping scores of their games. Sometimes we need ideas out side of the box and i feel this is one that should be looked at.

Weekend Highlights:

Despite having a 1 v 2 game go down to the wire, the highlight for the weekend was Otway Districts one-point win over Irrewarra Beeac. The Demons have not won more than two games in a season since 2012 and now sit this season with three wins with some winnable games to come. It's great reward for some hard work TMG and the crew down at Gellibrand are doing down there.

What's To Come:

Apollo Bay could turn this season on it's head if they can cause an upset on Saturday against Alvie. In the last three seasons the Hawks have only defeated one side above them on the ladder which seems to be their big Achilles heel, they have the talent to rise and become not only a finals player, but a serious contender. They matched it with the Swans are Red Rock earlier in the season but we clipped at the post, Saturday is their biggest game since their last final venture in 2013. It is going to be a interesting day down at the Bay.

Local Champ:

As a Cats supporter i loved Saturday's result at the G and the footage of Colac great Luke Hodge with is hands on his his shattered he had lost another close one to the Cats- but what a player he has been. The Colac Tigers always gets a run when they mention him, but the Colac Imperials (CDFNL) had as much of a role in his junior development as they did. Fingers crossed we may see him running around at the Central Reserve or the Western Oval in the next couple of years.
